La rievocazione storica
della Passione di Cristo
The historical re-enactment of the Passion of Christ through the streets of Grassina on Good Friday
One of the oldest representations dedicated to the Passion of Jesus the Nazarene. Its origins, according to some historical sources, date back to the 17th century.
Today the re-enactment involves more than 500 participants in period costume. For about five hours the spectacle unfolds with evocative events that reenact and revive along the streets of the village the setting and characters of Jerusalem 2,000 years ago.
Grassina, a small town a few kilometers from Florence in the populous municipality of Bagno a Ripoli at the gateway to the well-known Chianti region. Its streets, its central square are the places that host some of the most important moments of the historical revocation. Stores and stores also participate in the event by competitively decorating their windows with images and signs that tell aspects and meanings of the Good Friday historical re-enactment. In fact, the whole town of Grassina is the protagonist of the event.

“No wonder at all that the passion has been declared an excess. And in fact it is an excess of the love of Jesus Christ.”
Claude de la Colombière
